FINAL STATISTICS

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State women's basketball team suffered its fourth-straight loss at the hands of Rutgers, 74-62, on Sunday, Feb. 7 at the Bryce Jordan Center. The Lady Lions (8-15, 3-9 B1G) had three players reach double-digit scoring in the conference contest, while the Scarlet Knights (14-10, 5-7 B1G) had five players notch double figures.

Freshman Teniya Page (Chicago, Ill.) moved into ninth all-time in freshman scoring laurels, scoring 18 points to bring her career total to 359 while donning the blue and white. Page surpassed Lisa Shepard's 349 points from the 1997-98 season and Tanisha Wright, who scored 355 points in the 2001-02 campaign. The freshman led all Penn State scorers on the afternoon, while dishing out four assists.

Senior Candice Agee (Victorville, Calif.) notched her 600th career point in the second quarter with a drop step lay up on the left side of the paint. The senior forward ended the night with five points to bring her career total 600.

Also reaching double-digits for the Lady Lions were Lindsey Spann (Laurel, Md.) and Brianna Banks (Newnan, Ga.), who tallied 13 and 12 points, respectively. Spann's 13 points mark the fourth-straight game that the sophomore has reached double-digits, while Banks has scored 10-or-more points on 17 occasions this season.

Spann led all players on the boards, grabbing nine and besting a previous career-high of seven, while Peyton Whitted (Suwanee, Ga.) pulled down six boards. Defensively, Penn State collected 10 steals to notch the fifth time this season that the Lady Lions have had 10-or-more steals.

Five Scarlet Knights notched double-digit scoring, led by Kahleah Copper, who dropped 20 points, while Tyler Scaife had 15, Rachel Hollivay had 13 and Briyona Canty and Khadaizha Sanders had 11 each. As a team, Rutgers shot 52.6 percent from the floor and 50 percent from three-point range, while dishing out 16 helpers.

Rutgers was the first to get on the scoreboard with a trey from the right side of the floor but Penn State responded with a steal on RU's next possession followed by a Spann jumper from the right elbow. After a second jumper from Spann, the Lady Lions suffered a lull on offense, allowing the Scarlet Knights to take a 19-7 lead. After two free throws from Banks, Page found a pull-up jumper at the right elbow to ignite a 6-0 run for the Blue and White that would close out the quarter with Penn State trailing, 19-11.

The two teams exchanged baskets until Agee made a drop step move under the left side of the basket to notch her 600th career point and bring Penn State within eight, 34-26, with 2:20 left in the half. The Lady Lions were unable to find any further offense, turning the ball over three times before Rutgers scored a final basket with three seconds left to take a 10-point lead, 36-26, into halftime.

Rutgers used a 13-7 run, including four points from Copper, in the first five minutes of the third quarter to extend its lead to 49-35. The Lady Lions looked to spark some offense, using a three-pointer from Kaliyah Mitchell (Stone Mountain, Ga.) and three free throws to cut the lead to 10, but again the Scarlet Knights answered back with a jumper paired with a Penn State foul. The Lady Lion defense answered, causing a five-second violation to get the ball back before two free throws from Page trimmed the lead to 10.

Penn State continued to struggle offensively in the fourth quarter, scoring just two points until Banks made two from the charity stripe with 5:23 remaining in the contest. The Lady Lions closed out the game on a 15-11 run, but were unable to trim too much off of the Rutgers lead, falling 74-62.

Penn State makes the trek to East Lansing, Mich. Thursday, Feb. 11 for a mid-week Big Ten Conference contest against the Spartans of Michigan State. Tip off from the Breslin Center is slated for 6:30 p.m. Fans who cannot travel to the game can catch it live on Big Ten Network or on the airwaves of the Penn State Sports Network.
