Women's Tennis Defeats Wisconsin

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa ââ'¬" The Penn State women's tennis team (5-8, 1-2) took down Wisconsin (3-9, 0-3) during todays Big Ten match 4-3.

Duo Devan McCluskey (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Kim Surin (Montreal, Canada) clinched the doubles point for the Nittany Lions. Dasha Sapogova secured the Penn State win after a 6-4, 6-2 defeat over Kelsey Grambeau.

"I give our team a lot of credit for the fight and effort today and for our win against a quality Wisconsin team," said coach Cagle, "We had a great turn around coming off of a tough Minnesota match but we came in today focused and prepared and it paid off for us. We will keep that momentum going forward as we prepare for Maryland and Rutgers."

In singles action, Devan McCluskey quickly defeated Maria Avgerinos 6-2, 7-6(5). The badgers answered with a 6-4, 7-5 defeat against senior Katherine Whiteaway (Sawbridgeworth, England). Jacqueline Zuhse (Boca Raton, Fla.) clinched a Nittany Lion victory in a three set match against Kendall Kirsch 6-0, 4-6, 6-2. Katia Blik (Moscow, Russia) put up a strong fight against Wisconsin's Ekaterina Stepanova but was defeated 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-4. Dasha Sapogova clinched the match for Penn State after her 6-4,6-2 defeat over Kelsey Grambeau. Senior Kim Surin was defeated in a tiebreaker at No. 1 singles against Lauren Chypya.

Blik and Tutelman quickly clinched their doubles match at No. 3 6-1, Surin and McCluskey clinched the doubles point after defeating Chypyha and Kirsch 7-5. It was too late for the Badgers when partners Stepanova and Rider defeated Zuhse and Whiteaway 7-6(5).
