Day One Complete at the Briar's Creek Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" The Penn State women's golf team competed in 36-holes of continuous play at the Briar Creek Invitational played in Johns Island, S.C. The team shot 299 plus-11 in round one and 293 plus-5 in round two and are tied for 10th place with two other teams.

Newcomer Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) led the team with a score of 143 1-under after two rounds of play. Waller is just one of 11 people in the entire tournament to finish under par after the first two rounds. She is tied for 10th in the player leaderboard.

Newcomer Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) ended the day with a 70 2-under performance in the second round, for a tournament score of 146 plus-2. Rogowicz is also near the top of the player leaderboard, as she is tied for 21st.

Sophomore Ariana Coyle Diez (Mount Merrion, Dublin, Ireland) shot six birdies on her way to a total score of 151 plus-7, while senior Halley Morell (Brecksville, Ohio) finished with a score of 161 plus-17.

Newcomer Cara Basso (Dowingtown, Pa.) contributed seven birdies through the first two rounds and shot a 76 plus-4 for both rounds, for a total tournament score of 152 plus-8.

The defending champions, the Florida Gators are in first place with a three-stroke lead over the second placed Indiana.

The final round begins tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m.
