Women's Golf Captures 13th in the Briar's Creek Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" The Penn State women's golf team competed in the final round of the Briar's Creek Invitational and shot a 298 plus-10, for a total team score of 890 plus-26. The Nittany Lions earned 13th place in one of the toughest tournament fields they have played against this season.

The talented newcomers led the Lions again as the top three team scores were all shot by freshmen.

Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) ended her fall season, with a season low round score of 68 4-under at the Landfall Tradition and has picked up right where she left off finishing this tournament shooting 215 1-under. Waller was just shy of the top 10, finishing tied for 11th in the player leaderboard.

Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) finished second on the team as she shot 11 birdies and one eagle during the tournament to end with a score of 219 plus-3.

Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) had a standout performance as she beat her previous season low round score by six strokes, hitting five birdies in the final round and shooting a 69 3-under. Basso finished third on the team with a tournament score of 221 plus-5.

Sophomore Ariana Coyle Diez (Mount Merrion, Dublin, Ireland) and senior Halley Morell (Brecksville, Ohio) both shot an 84 plus-12 in the final round. Diez finished with a total score of 235 plus-19, while Morell shot a 245 plus-29.

The Florida Gators have now won the Briar's Creek Invitational two years in a row, as they were the only team to finish under par after three rounds. The Gators shot an 858 6-under as a team and beat out the second placed Indiana by 11 strokes.

The Nittany Lions head to Greensboro, N.C. for their next tournament the Bryan Park Invitational.
