Post-Game Notes

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.
- The No. 10 Penn State men's volleyball team (14-6, 7-1) used a fifth and deciding set to close out the match (23-25,25-23,25-18,13-25,15-12) against the No. 13 Flyers of Lewis in the 3-2 win Friday night in Rec Hall.

"That was one of those matches where it would be very easy for us to say we could've won in three, and it would've been very easy for Lewis to say 'hey we could've won in four' with
those two deuce games in one and four," said head coach Mark Pavlik.

"Game five was, to me, probably the best game five we've played all year. We were steady late, we jumped out to the 5-2 lead and then they tied it at six, and then from there on I just thought we got stronger and stronger. It was a good win against a good team."

Matt Seifert (Reading, Pa.) posted 10 kills on 15 attempts hitting a team high .667 while adding two back-to-back service aces, during the opening set, and three blocks en route to earning Mike Anderson Penn State Player of the Match honors for the third time this season, and second time in as many games following Monday's honors vs. UC-Irvine.

Aidan Albrecht (Old Bridge, N.J.) led the Nittany Lions in kills with a career high 20 and added five digs along with 3 blocks on the night.

Spencer Sauter (Woodridge, Ill.) and Chris Nugent (Fair Lawn, N.J.) finished with 10 and 13 kills, respectively, while Sauter added 10 digs to record his second double-double of the season having recorded his first double-double against Lewis on January 16 in Romeroville, IL.

Taylor Hammond (Mission Viejo, Calif.) handed out 53 assists, while Royce Clemens (York, Pa.) finished with a game-high 17 digs.

Tied at two sets apiece entering the fifth set, Penn State wasted no time getting on the board with a kill from Matt Seifert assisted by Taylor Hammond. The Nittany Lions began the fifth set on a 5-2 run capped by an attack error by the Flyers that prompted a timeout by head coach Dan Friend with the Lions up by three.

Out of the timeout, the Fylers went on a run of their own knotting things up at 6-6 following a Penn State attack error and a service ace from Julian Moses to give Lewis their fifth and sixth points of the set warranting a Mark Pavlik timeout, the first of the set for Penn State.

The Nittany Lions up 11-9, after second timeouts by both Lewis and Penn State, finished out the set on a 4-3 run recording their 15th and match-deciding point on a kill from Seifert.

Penn State sweeps the season series against Lewis improving to 2-0 against the Flyers in 2016.

Penn State will wrap up its 11-game home stand with Loyola on Saturday Mar. 26 with a first whistle slated for 7:00 p.m. The Penn State vs. Loyola match will broadcast LIVE on BTN.
