WALTHAM, Mass. ââ'¬" Junior captain Jessie Radanovich (Tollhouse, Calif.) became the 2016 Women's Epee National Champion today on the second day of the NCAA Championships.
Radanovich took the title on the final day of competition for the women. Currently Penn State is in seventh place place in the team competition.
Radanovich advanced to the final round of the tournament after defeating Mason Speta of Barnard 15-12. Radanovich faced Princeton's Charlene Liu in the final round, coming out on top with a score of 15-10.
"It feels unbelievably amazing, and I can barely even believe it happened!" said Radanovich. "I am very grateful to my coaches and to my incredible teammates. I would not be close to doing how I did today without their awesome love and support."
Radanovich was the only member of the women's team to compete in today's semifinal and final rounds.
Individual results are as followed:
Epee: Senior Jessica O'Neill-Lyublinsky (North Salem, N.Y.) ââ'¬" 20th
Sabre: Teodora Kakhiani (Tbilisi, Georgia) ââ'¬" 7th; Kathryn Charpin ââ'¬" 16th
The men will begin competition tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.
