Penn State Wraps Up Day One of Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge

TEMPE, AZ -
The Penn State track & field teams wrapped up a brief day one of action in the desert at the Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge with the women in second-place totaling 23 points on the day and the men in seventh-place with eight points through three events scored on each side.

All-American Lauren Kenney (State College, Pa.) recorded the highest finish on the day for the Nittany Lions in the javelin throw, her signature event.

The senior collected eight points for Penn State in her second-place finish posting a best mark of 48.03m (157'-7"). Stephanie Sievers (Douglassville, Pa.) and Kayla Zoschg (Emporium, Pa.) rounded out scoring in the event with their fifth and seventh-place finishes recording marks of 44.70m (146'-8") and 42.76m (140'-3"), respectively.

The men's javelin throw featured Penn State's Ryan Kerr (Brookville, Pa.) who finished the event with a mark of 66.96m (219'-8.25") to claim third-place and six points.

Kory Decesaris (Danielsville, Pa.) accounted for the final two points of day one for the Nittany Lion men's team as he took seventh-place in the hammer throw finishing the day with a best mark of 58.84m (193'-0") in the event.

Rachel Fatherly (Williamsport, Pa.) fresh off her 2016 NCAA Indoor All-American honors opened her outdoor campaign with a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw as she finished the competition with a mark of 54.79m (179'-9.25") while teammate Alyssa Robinson (Saint Clairsville, Ohio) rounded out scoring in the event with her mark of 53.58m (175'-9.5") to take sixth-place.

Penn State will complete action in Tepme, AZ tomorrow as day two of the Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge wraps up from Sun Angel Stadium.
