Penn State Finishes Second in the River Landing Classic

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State women's golf team finished an all-around well played tournament with an even better final round. The Lion's shot a 293 plus-5 in the final round at the River Landing Classic and finished in second place, their best finish this season, since their first place victory in the Nittany Lion Invitational.

The Nittany Lions final round score was 10 strokes better than their previous best round score of the tournament, which came in the first round when they shot 303 plus-15.

Senior Halley Morell (Brecksville, Ohio) continued her dominant performance, as she shot a season low 70 2-under in the final round. Morell finished with a tournament score of 219 plus-3, and set a new career best finish, as she ended tied for third in the player leaderboard.

The newcomer Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) finished with her best round of the tournament shooting a 74 plus-2, while earning her second top 10 finish of the season, finishing ninth.

Newcomer Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) finished the back nine shooting 2-under, and shot a team-high five birdies on her way to a final round score of 76 plus-4. Waller finished tied for 18th.

Newcomer Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) also earned a new career best finish ending the tournament tied for 18th. Basso shot a 73 plus-1 in the final round.

Penn State's individual player, senior Grace Chung (Richmond Hill, Ontario) shot a 75 plus-3 in the final round, while sophomore Ariana Coyle Diez (Mount Merrion, Dublin, Ireland) shot a 78 plus-6.

The Nittany Lions started and ended their season this year on very positive notes. Their first tournament, the Nittany Lion Invitational which was also their only home tournament, they went on to win. While their last tournament before the Big Ten Championship, they finish second, only four strokes behind East Carolina University, who won their third River Landing Classic.
