UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Former Penn State standout Christian Hackenberg will appear in a pair of upcoming ESPN series: Hey Rookie, Welcome to the NFL and Gruden's QB Camp. Hey Rookie, Welcome to the NFL debuts Tuesday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN, while Gruden's QB Camp with Hackenberg will first air Tuesday, April 19 at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN.
Hey Rookie, Welcome to the NFL is a four-part NFL Films-produced series features top draft prospects Jared Goff (California), Carson Wentz (North Dakota State), Christian Hackenberg (Penn State), Robert Nkemdiche and Laquon Treadwell (Mississippi), Noah Spence (Eastern Kentucky), Karl Joseph (West Virginia), and Kenneth Dixon (Louisiana Tech). The series provides a behind-the-scenes look at the prospects at the NFL Combine, during their Pro Day workouts, and in their hometowns.
Hackenberg is the third consecutive Nittany Lion to be featured on the Hey Rookie series, joining current Chicago Bear Adrian Amos (2015) and current Baltimore Raven John Urschel (2014) as participants.
The 30-minute SportsCenter Special presented by Stouffer's: Gruden's QB Camp will air multiple times during the month of April on various ESPN networks. The 2016 Gruden's QB Camp class features projected first round picks Jared Goff (California), the First Team All-Pac 12 selection, and Carson Wentz (North Dakota State), the Most Outstanding Player from the NCAA DI National Championship the past two years. Others include Big Ten Quarterback of the Year and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award winner Connor Cook (Michigan State), 2013 Big Ten Freshman of the Year Christian Hackenberg (Penn State), 2015 College Football Playoff national champion Cardale Jones (Ohio State), American Athletic Conference First Team selection Paxton Lynch (Memphis), and 2016 Reese's Senior Bowl MVP Dak Prescott (Mississippi State).
Hackenberg left Penn State with this name etched at the top of the career passing record books. He ranks first in Penn State history in career passing yards (8,457), touchdowns (48), 300-yard passing games (9), 200-yard passing games (21), attempts (1,235), completions (693) and total offense (8,215). Hackenberg is the only quarterback in program history with 8,000 yards passing and three 2,000-yard passing seasons.
Additionally, Hackenberg owns the Penn State record for passing yards in a game (454; 2014), passing yards in consecutive games (773; 2014), pass attempts in a game (55; 2013), season completions (270; 2014 - tied with Matt McGloin) and pass attempts in a season (484; 2014). As a freshman, Hackenberg broke one Penn State overall passing record and 12 school freshman passing records, including the rookie marks for game and season passing completions, attempts, yards and touchdown passes.
Penn State season ticket renewals and Nittany Lion Club membership renewals also are underway for the 2016 campaign, which includes five Big Ten home games for the first time. There will not be any increase in the price of Penn State football season tickets or Nittany Lion Club donation levels for next season.
