UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa ââ'¬" The Penn State women's tennis team (5-9) dropped todays match to Maryland (10-12) 5-2. The Nittany Lions look to gain their second conference win against Rutgers (7-9) tomorrow, April 3 at 12:30 p.m.
"Credit to Maryland for playing a good match," said coach Cagle, "We had our chances but were not able to capitalize. We competed at a high level and need to bring that energy back tomorrow against Rutgers."
In singles action, at No.1 Kim Surin (Montreal, Canada) defeated Alexandra Stanova 7-5, 6-1. Katia Blik (Moscow, Russia), Jacqueline Zuhse (Boca Raton, Fla.), Katherine Whiteaway (Sawbridgeworth, England) and Liyin Xu (Chengdu, China) dropped their matches against the Terrapins. Blik lost to Arnelle Sullivan 6-4,4-6,6-4, Zuhse fell to Nataliya Bredikhina 6-3,6-4, Katherine Whiteaway (Sawbridgeworth, England) fell to Cassandre Thebault 6-0, 2-6, 6-4, and Liyin Xu (Chengdu, China) fell to Ekaterina Tour 6-1, 6-0. Senior, Dasha Sapogova (Belarus, Minsk) clinched her match against Kristina Hovsepyan 6-2,6-3.
Penn State failed to clinch the doubles point against Maryland. Zuhse and Whiteaway fell to Stanova and Hovsepyan 6-1, Blik and Tutelman fell to Sullivan and Tour 6-4 and Surin and Sapogova were defeated by Olga Bredikhina and Williams 6-4.
