UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's golf team sits in the middle of the pack after round two of play at the Big Ten Championship in Newburgh, Indiana on the Victoria National Golf Course.
The team moved up one spot on the day to seventh with only eight shots separating them from fourth place. JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) continued his strong play into round two as he finished the first 36 holes with a 4-under 140 leaving him alone in second place after shooting his second straight 70 in the tournament.
Freshman Charles Huntzinger (Duluth, Ga.) shot a 73 to finish in a tie for 19th at 1-over. Sophomore Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.) and senior Chris Houston (Gilford, N.H.) each scored better than their day one totals. Miller shot a 74 and moved into 30th while Houston shot a 76 moving into a tie for 46th with Geoff Vartelas (Cromwell, Conn.) who shot his second straight 77 in round two.
Iowa leads the team leaderboard after shooting a 7-under round as a team to finish at 566. Seven strokes back is Maryland at 573 before the leader heading into today's play, Illinois checked in at 574.
Carson Schaake from Iowa leads all golfers after a 5-under 67 placed him alone in first with a two round total of 137. Dornes follows three strokes back at 140 before Maryland's David Kocher comes in third with 141.
The Lions will begin round three the same as round two, paired up with Northwestern beginning on hole 10 with tee times at 9:00 a.m.
