Penn State Heptathletes Finish 2-3 at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Penn State's Madeline Holmberg and Tal Ben-Artzi wrapped up competition in the Heptathlon Wednesday afternoon at the Historic Penn Relays at Franklin Field with second and third-place finishes.

Holmberg, who led the competition after the first day of competition, strung together the No. 7 total heptathlon score in school history ending the event with a two day total of 5,053 to finish second behind Connecticut's Saija Bikanova (5077).

Holmberg recorded marks of 14.32 (100mH), 1.55m (high jump), 12.25m (shot put), 24.52 (200-meters), 5.60m (long jump), 25.29m (javelin), and capped day two with a run of 2:28.26 in the 800-meters.

The freshman from Greensburg, Pa. set personal best marks in the 200-meters, 100-meter hurdles, high jump, and javelin.

Teammate Tal Ben-Artzi finished right behind Holmberg in the two day competition with her total score of 4,862 points to take third-place.

Ben-Artzi turned in marks of 15.52 (100mH), 1.64m (high jump), 10.82m (shot put), 26.36 (200-meters), 5.39m (long jump), 28.52m (javelin), and 2:18.89 in the 800-meters.

Holmberg recorded the highest finish by a Nittany Lion since 2013 when Brittney Howell won the event at the Penn Relays with her total score of 5,084.

Penn State is set to compete starting tomorrow at 9 a.m. as the running and field events get started in the 122nd Penn Relays.
