UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Rising junior Cole Miller captured the Pennsylvania Amateur Championship this week, edging former teammate JD Dornes in the final round. The pair finished first and second in the 103rd edition of the event at Moselem Springs Golf Club (par 70, 6,801 yards) in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania.
"I would say this is my biggest win to date," Miller told pagolf.com. "It's great to get out here because this is just a great tournament. You obviously have all the best guys in Pennsylvania here. To compete with them and pull off the win, that's all you can ask for."
Miller entered the final round with a three-shot deficit, but birdied six of his final 12 holes to come away with the win. The New Tripoli, Pa., native and Dornes were tied at 11-under to start their back nine before separating themsleves late in the round.
Dornes, a product of Lancaster, Pa., posted a competitive course-tying record 62 in the first round Monday and followed it up with a 2-under 68 Tuesday to enter the final round with a three-stroke advantage over Miller.
