Rizzo Added to USA Junior World Cup Roster

Aug. 12, 2016

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Sophomore goalkeeper Jenny Rizzo will join the United States' U21 junior national team at the 2016 Field Hockey World Cup, as announced this week by USA Field Hockey and U21 head coach Janneke Schopman.

"We've been having training camps all summer with the last camp being the last week of July," said Rizzo.

"After camp was completed, coach Schopman was going to select 12 members and then choose the last six after our camp in September. There were three goalies at the camp and two of us made the squad."

Rizzo competed at the first training camp with the USA Jr. National Team at Princeton, with the following training camp taking place at the Spooky Nook Sports complex in Manheim, PA.

2016 Junior Women World Cup will be held after the NCAA championship game on Nov. 21; "we fly out of Norfolk, VA four hours after that game," added Rizzo.

The tournament will be held Nov 24-Dec 4, 2016 in Santiago, Chile.

"It's been a lot of fun training with the team this summer," Rizzo continued.

"It's been good to keep playing over the summer and keep conditioning too. We actually were able to play the India women's national team who is actually competing at the Rio Olympics right now during the final training camp; they just competed against Team USA not too long ago. That was a really cool experience to get under my belt."

Held every four years, the Junior World Cup is a spectacle of new talent. This is the perfect platform for young players to unleash their raw skill onto the international hockey scene. Competitors must be under the age of 21 as of December 31 in the year before the tournament is held. With 16 teams competing for the ultimate prize the Junior Hockey World Cup is always an exciting event.
