Penn State Tops Drexel 4-2 in Exhibition Finale

Aug. 20, 2016

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State field hockey wrapped up the 2016 preseason with a 4-2 win over Drexel Saturday afternoon at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex.

"I thought we took a big step today playing the ball out of the back field into the midfield," said Coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss.

"I thought our midfielders were more connected than they were against Kent State. I thought our attack was a little bit sharper against Kent State. While I saw good things from each exhibition, It'll be important to put that all together going into the weekend next week."

The Nittany Lions scored four goals, all from different players, and held an advantage in shots recording 23 while limiting Drexel to eight.

Penn State scored three unanswered goals in the first half and continued the streak in the second half with a goal from Gini Bramley before surrendering two goals to Drexel midway through the final half.

"We know what we want, we know how we play, we know each other more, we can do it and we just have to practice it," said sophomore midfielder Aurelia Meijer.

"This game we know what we did wrong and we know what we did well so we just have to clean up the mistakes and keep working"

Penn State will open the 2016 season at home against Old Dominion Friday August 26 at 6 p.m. followed by a Sunday afternoon bout with Virginia at 12 p.m.
