UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's basketball program is taking Big Ten basketball to the City of Brotherly Love, hosting Michigan State in a league matchup Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017 in Philadelphia's historic Palestra, Patrick Chambers, head coach of the Nittany Lions, announced in August. It will count as a home game for the Nittany Lions, who boast six players from the Philly area on this year's roster, in addition to Chambers, a Delaware County native.
The teams will tip-off at noon or 1 p.m. on ESPN, the league announced Wednesday, Sept. 21. It is the first game on the primary ESPN network for the Nittany Lions since 2012.
"We cannot wait to take the Big Ten into Philadelphia this season," Chambers said. "It is always an incredible experience to play in the Palestra and we are honored to do it this time as the home team. We have so many ties to the city as a program and we look forward to connecting with the alumni and fans in the area.
"I want to thank the Big Ten Conference for working with us to make this game happen, and allowing our vision of playing a Big Ten game in the Palestra to come to fruition."
TICKET INFORMATION
- A priority purchase period for 2016-17 men's basketball season ticket holders offering reduced prices will run Tuesday, Aug. 30 through Friday, Sept. 9.
- To ensure priority access, season tickets can be purchased from the Penn State Ticket AccountManager and 1-800-NITTANY.
- The public sale for tickets to the game at the Palestra, as well as all Penn State home games this season, are available starting Thursday, Sept. 22. Tickets for the Jan. 7 matchup vs. Michigan State will be sold via the Ticket AccountManager, 1-800-NITTANY or in person.
- Penn State students, from University Park campus as well as all commonwealth campuses, will be able to purchase a student ticket for $10. On-sale information will be available at a later date.

The Nittany Lions have won 11 of their last 18 games played in the Palestra, including each of the last two after defeating Drexel last season and Penn in 2013. This is the first trip to the Palestra for Michigan State in Tom Izzo's 21 seasons at the helm of the Spartans.
"The dedicated fans in State College have been fantastic and we cannot wait to open this fall in University Park," Chambers. "This, however, offers us an opportunity to showcase Penn State Basketball to those fans in the Philadelphia area who don't have the opportunity to regularly travel to the Bryce Jordan Center."
Following a Friday, Nov. 4 exhibition vs. Lock Haven, Penn State opens the 2016-17 season against Albany Friday, Nov. 11 in the Bryce Jordan Center. The Lions' 13-game non-conference slate is highlighted by games vs. Duke and either Cincinnati or Rhode Island in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off, as well as against Pittsburgh, St. John's and George Washington. The Nittany Lions return three starters - Shep Garner, Payton Banks and Josh Reaves - and seven total letterwinners from a year ago. With the expected availability of UConn transfer Terrence Samuel and redshirt freshman Mike Watkins, as well as the highly-touted freshman class of Nazeer Bostick, Tony Carr, Joe Hampton and Lamar Stevens, the Nittany Lions have what CBS' Jon Rothstein is calling a "legitimate Big Ten rotation."
