UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Four different players scored for the No.5 Penn State field hockey team in a 4-1 win over Lock Haven Sunday afternoon at the Field Hockey Complex.

"Lock Haven always gives us a great challenge," said head coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss.

"I thought they played amazing defense, we just needed to be a little more patient and not get frustrated."

Throughout the first period, Penn State was able to dominate possession of ball as they outshoot Lock Haven 7-1. The Bald Eagles goalie was able to save the first 5 shots on goal; however, with less than two minutes to go in the period, Moira Putsch (Media, Pa.) was able to find an opening at the top of the circle and score an unassisted goal.

In the second half, Penn State went on a 3-0 run in which three different lions were able to score. Gini Bramley (Elizabethtown, Pa.) was the first one to score in the second half. Assisted by Aurelia Meijer ( Hattem, Netherlands), Bramley was able to find her way past the defenders to give the Lions a 2-0 lead.

Assisted by Brooke Birosik ( Ickesburg, Pa.), Shay Cannon ( Wilmington, Del.) was able to push ahead and score a goal of her own, helping extend the lions lead to 3-0.

The pace of the game pick up as the ball found its way into both teams 25's several times. After a penalty corner insert by Putsch, Kasey Morano (Hammonton, N.J.) was able to find the ball in front of the goal and with a clean shot, earned her second goal of the season.

Penn State outshot Lock Haven 24-3 as well as stop the Bald Eagles from gaining any penalty corners.

This is the first time since 2002 that the Lions have started the season 5-0.

Penn State will return to action Sept. 13 at home against Bucknell starting at 7 p.m.
