Iowa City, IA. - Moria Putsch (Media, Pa.) scored a pair of goals for the Nittany Lions as No. 4 Penn State (7-0, 1-0 Big Ten) rallied past No. 16 Iowa (5-2, 0-1 Big Ten) for the first Big Ten win of the season.

"Going down 3-0 was really tough," said head coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss."

"It was real key to get that first goal before half time to cut the lead to 3-1."

The Lions escaped a scoreless first half as Aurelia Meijer (Hattem, Netherlands) found the back of the cage for the third time this season.

Heading into the second half, the Lions were down 3-1 and trailing for the first time all season.

"We just got back onto our game plan," said Morett-Curtiss.

"It's a 35-minute second half, we know we're fit and we just had to keep our composure and play well."

In the 45th minute, Gini Bramley (Elizabethtown, Pa.) found a clear path into the cage to make it a one goal game, Iowa leading 3-2.

Moria Putsch scored the final two goals of the game to lead the Lions to victory. Aurelia Meijer fired a shot that was blocked by the goalie and Putsch was able to recover the deflection and place it in the cage earning her sixth goal of the season. Assisted by Bramley, Putsch was able to beat the goalie again and score the game winning goal, the seventh of the season for the junior.

The Lions outshot the Hawkeyes 14-10 and lead in penalty corners with earning seven to Iowa's three.

The Lions have now equaled the second-best start to a season in program history at 7-0, equaling the start of the 2002 season, in addition to improving to 24-26-1 all-time against Iowa.

This game featured the fifth time the Lions have gone on a 3-0 scoring run during a game this season (Virginia, Old Dominion, Temple, Bucknell).

Penn State will hit the field for a non-conference match against Ball State tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. ET. The neutral site matchup against the Cardinals will be the first time Ball State and Penn State meet on the astroturf. Penn State is 61-10-1 all-time in first-time matchups.
