UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State women's golf team got their fall season underway competing in rounds one and two in the East & West Match Play Challenge in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Lions finished tied for sixth with Nebraska but will earn the sixth seed over Nebraska in match play competition because their fifth players score was lower.
The team was led by sophomore Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) who shot a 74 plus-2 in both rounds for a total score of 148. Waller is tied for 17th in the player leaderboard.
The newcomer Ashni Dhruva (Katy, Texas) began her collegiate golf career with two impressive rounds. Dhruva shot a 73 plus-1 in the first round and a 76 plus-4 in round 2. She is also ranked inside the top 25 in the player leaderboard, sitting tied for 22nd.
Sophomores Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) and Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) counted as the third and fourth players for the Lions. Basso shot a 151 on the day, while Rogowicz shot a 152.
Newcomer Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) who is also competing in her first collegiate tournament shot a 156 through the first two rounds.
Senior Kate Granahan (Allentown, Pa.) competed as an individual, and shot a 74 plus-2 in the first round and an 82 in round 2.
Ohio State was the only team to shoot under par with a score of 575 1-under. The Buckeyes top two players are also ranked one and two in the player leaderboard.
The Nittany Lions shot as a team 600 through 36-holes, with a 301 in the first round and a 299 in the second round. They will be playing in the consolation bracket tomorrow against the seventh seeded Nebraska. The Lions will tee off at the 10th tee at 9:18 a.m.
Penn State's individual player Kate Granahan (Allentown, Pa.) is the second seed in the individual bracket and will be competing against the third seed Alisa Snyder from the University of Michigan. Granahan will be teeing off at 9 a.m.
