Penn State Wins Big Against Nebraska at East & West Match

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" The Penn State women's golf team competed and won 4-1 against the seventh seeded Nebraska in the first round of the consolation bracket in the East & West Match Play Challenge.

Sophomore's Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) and Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) both had great freshman seasons and are back at it again this year. Waller had the largest margin of victory, winning 4-and-2 against Nebraska's Kate Smith. While Rogowicz finished her match with a hole still left to play, as she won 2-and-1.

Newcomer Ashni Dhruva (Katy, Texas) and sophomore Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) both put in solid performances, defeating their opponent's 1-up.

Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) another newcomer, battled till the end but came up just short as she lost 1-up to Nebraska's Emily Gillman.

Individual player Kate Granahan (Allentown, Pa.) was defeated 4-and-3 to the third seeded Alisa Snyder from Michigan. Granahan will compete against the number four seed Ali Nageotte from Wisconsin tomorrow in the third and fourth place match-up. They are expected to tee-off at 8:45 a.m. on the first tee.

Penn State will take on UC Davis in the final round of the consolation bracket. Winner will earn fifth place in the tournament, while loser receives sixth place. This group will tee-off at 9:48 a.m. at the 10th hole.
