WINTHROP, Mass. - The Penn State women's hockey team has been picked fourth in the College Hockey America (CHA) Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Penn State returns 13 members from the 2015-16 team and welcomes eight freshmen to the program for the 2016-17 campaign.
After finishing sixth in the CHA conference standings during their first two seasons, the Nittany Lions finished fourth in 2014-15 and placed third in 2015-16. The success from the regular season carried over into the CHA Tournament for the Nittany Lions.
After securing their second-straight first round sweep in the CHA Tournament, the 2015-16 season came to a close for the Nittany Lions in a 3-2, three overtime loss against Syracuse in the CHA Semifinals. The Nittany Lions and Orange battled for 116:10 minutes, which ranks as the eighth-longest game all-time in NCAA Division I women's ice hockey history.
Penn State is slated to host Guelph in an exhibition contest Saturday, Sept. 24, at 4 p.m. at the Pegula Ice Arena. Admission is free for all fans.
