LOCK HAVEN, Pa.
- The Penn State cross country teams opened their respective season Friday night at the annual Lock Haven Dolan Duals sweeping both the men's and women's team titles.

For the eighth-consecutive year the Nittany Lion women's cross country team finished the Dolan Duals with a perfect score of 15, while the men narrowly missed earning the perfect score finishing 1-2-3-4-6 to record a score of 16.

"It was a great effort on both sides," said head coach John Gondak.

"We saw some outstanding performances tonight. This was two different kind of races today. The women's race was a little quicker from the start , we held our pack and ran some really fast times on the women's side today. Of our top-eight finishers all of their times fell into the top-20 all-time for this course. On the men's side it started off a little more conservative than last year, but I really like the racing approach from the men today. We packed it up, we had a huge pack and that's what we talked about, that was the race plan and both sides executed everything really well today."

For the women, it was redshirt-sophomore All-American Tessa Barrett leading the way for Penn State. Barrett and Elizabeth Chikotas led the way from the start and never looked back finishing 16 seconds ahead of the field recording times of 13:37.40 and 13:38.50, respectively.

Rounding out the scoring for the Nittany Lions were Jillian Hunsberger (13:55.24), Greta Lindsley (14:00.26) and Kathryn Munks in a time of 14:15.67. The women placed 14 runners in the top-16 to close out the meet.

On the men's side, the front runners were team captain Tim McGowan who took home the individual meet title and Colin Abert. McGowan and Abert, like Barrett and Chikotas, led from the beginning and refused to relinquish the lead. The Penn State duo finished 1-2 in times of 17:59.08 and 18:11.63, respectively. Jack McGowan, Bobby Hill, and Conrad Lippert would round out the scoring on the day recording times of 18:14.80, 18:18.54, and 18:27.65, respectively.

Penn State will return to action next week as they host the annual Harry Groves Spikes Shoe Invitational Sept. 10 at the Blue-White Golf Course
