Big Ten Release
ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Laura Suero (Royersford, Pa.) has been named the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. This is the first weekly honor for Suero.
Suero and the Nittany Lions tallied a record of 1-0-1 during the opening weekend of Big Ten play at No. 10 Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Last weekend, No. 16 Penn State and No. 10 Minnesota played to a 1-1 draw in the 2016 Big Ten opener for both teams. The Nittany Lions closed out the weekend with a 1-0 win over the Wisconsin Badgers on Suero's first career goal.
In the 1-0 win over the Badgers, Suero scored her first career goal on her first career shot attempt in the 72nd minute of play. Suero's goal came on a header off a corner kick with assists from Elizabeth Ball (Richmond, Va.) and Nickolette Driesse (Wayne, N.J.).
Earlier this season, Laura Freigang (Oppenheim, Germany) received Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors on Aug. 23.
The Nittany Lions return home to Jeffrey Field for a three-match homestand starting Friday, Sept. 23, against Iowa at 8 p.m.
