UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - After a two week hiatus following the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational (Sept. 10), the Penn State cross country teams are back in action this Saturday at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, MN. The Roy Griak Invitational features nationally ranked teams in both the men's and women's races.

THE MEET
The Men's Gold 8K is scheduled to go off at 12:20 p.m. CDT, while the Women's Gold 6k race is slated for a 1:35 p.m. CDT start. The meet is held at the Les Bolstad Golf course in Minneapolis, MN.

LAST TIME OUT

The Penn State Women found continued their streak as they won the Spike Shoe Invitational for the fifth-straight year. The Nittany Lions placed four runners in the top ten led by Tessa Barrett (20:31) who not only claimed an individual victory; but in the process, smashed the meet record of 20:52 set by Katie Jazwinsk of Michigan in 2000.
Tim McGowan (26:34.4) was the top finisher for the Penn State Men's fifth place finish.

LAST TIME AT THE ROY GRIAK INVITATIONAL

This is the first time Penn State will compete in the Roy Griak Invitational since September of 2011. Then-seniors Kyle Dawson and Caitlin Lane both turned in Top 10 individual finishes to lead the Nittany Lion Men and Women to fifth and eight place finishes respectively.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY
Current Penn State Cross Country/Track & Field Operations Assistant Owen Dawson took fifth-place for the Nittany Lions finishing strong down the homestretch with Dawson finishing in 25:19 during the Lions last visit to the Roy Griak Invitational in 2011.

BEST IN THE NATION
Tessa Barret received USTFCCCA Division I National Athlete of the Week honors for her performance at the Spiked shoe Invitational. Barrett, a redshirt-sophomore from Waverly, Pa., finished over 20 seconds ahead of the second place finisher and shattered a 16-year old meet record of 20:52 set by Katie Jazwinsk of Michigan in 2000. The victory also paced Penn State to a team tittle.

B1G HONORS

After an amazing performance at the Spike Shoe Invitational, Tessa Barrett was named Big Ten cross country Co-Athlete of the Week.
