UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" The Penn State women's golf team puts on an impressive performance in front of the home crowd heading into the championship round leading in both the team standings and having the number one player on the leaderboard.
The Lions were the only team to shoot a round under par, which came in the first round with a 287 1-under score. In round two the team shot a 303, for a total score of 590 plus-14 on the day. They are 14 strokes ahead of Richmond, and have three players in the top ten.
Sophomore Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) led the way, beating her career low round score, shooting a 68 4-under in the first round. Rogowicz then shot a 74 plus-2 in round two for a total score of 142 2-under on the day. That puts her in first place on the player leaderboard, two strokes ahead of the second placed Isabella Rusher playing for Richmond.
Newcomer Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) put on quite the performance in her home state. Herr shot a 69 3-under in the first round battling back and forth with teammate Rogowicz for first place. In round two she shot a 79, for a score of 148 plus-4 on the day. Herr is in sixth place on the leaderboard.
Sophomore Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) contributes two excellent rounds, totaling seven birdies on the day, and shooting a 73 plus-1 in round one and a 74 plus-2 in round two. Waller finishes the day with a total score of 147 plus-3 and sits in fifth place on the player leaderboard.
Sophomore Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) is tied for 16th in the leaderboard with a score of 153 through the first two rounds. Basso was the fourth score that counted for the team, while newcomer Ashni Dhruva (Katy, Texas) finished with a 157 on the day.
The top individual player for Penn State was senior Kate Granahan (Allentown, Pa.) who shot a 76 and a 77, for a total score of 153. Granahan is tied for 16th in the leaderboard.
Junior Ariana Coyle Diez (Mount Merrion, Dublin, Ireland) had to withdraw during the second round after sustaining an injury. She will not be playing in tomorrow's championship round.
The 18-hole championship round gets underway tomorrow with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
