NFHCA Rankings
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Off to the second best start in program history, Penn State checks in as the No. 5 team in the nation in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll released Tuesday afternoon.
Penn State (9-1) is coming off a 1-1 weekend that saw the Nittany Lions drop their first contest of the 2016 season followed by a win over No. 8 Michigan on the road.
UConn is the new No. 1 in Division I field hockey as the Huskies climb two spots from No. 3 and remain as the lone team in the nation with an unblemished record standing at 9-0 on the season.
Following UConn - who received 14 first place votes - are the Tar Heels of North Carolina at No. 2.
North Carolina (8-2) received the most first place votes (18) of any team in the rankings. Checking in at No.3 is Duke (8-1) followed by the defending national champions Syracuse at No. 4.
Penn State returns home this Friday after two weekends on the road. The Lion take on the Michigan State Spartans Friday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. ET, while Penn State vs. Princeton is slated to begin at 12 p.m. ET Sunday.
