POTSDAM, N.Y. - The No. 5 Clarkson Golden Knights edged the Penn State women's hockey team, 2-1, Saturday afternoon inside the Cheel Arena. Freshman Brooke Madsen (Eagan, Minn.) tallied her first career goal in the game.

The Clarkson Golden Knights improve to 2-0-0 on the year, while Penn State falls to 0-2-0.

Both teams each scored once within a 5:10-span to open the second period of play. The Clarkson offense recorded its first goal of the second period at 2:47 on a goal from Cayley Mercer. The Golden Knight lead didn't last long as Madsen knotted the game at one with a power play goal at 5:10.

On Madsen's goal, Kelly Seward (Williamsville, N.Y.) and Bella Sutton (Shoreview, Minn.) were credited with assists.

With 2:29 left in the second period, Clarkson's Josiane Pozzebon recorded a power play goal to put the Golden Knights up 2-1.

Junior goaltender Hannah Ehresmann (Minnetonka, Minn.) recorded 34 saves for the Blue and White.

The Nittany Lions continue their season-opening road trip against Union in Schenectady, N.Y., Oct. 7-8.
