UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Posting a B1G win over Ohio State last Thursday, Penn State held steady as the No. 5 team in the nation in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll released Tuesday afternoon.
Penn State (12-1) is coming off a 1-0 week that saw the Nittany Lions post a win over conference opponent Ohio State followed by a cancelation of the Oct. 8 match against then-No. 17 Wake Forest due to unplayable field conditions as a result of torrential downpour from Hurricane Matthew.
UConn remained atop the polls as the No. 1 team in Division I field hockey; the Huskies remain undefeated at 13-0 on the season receiving 18 first-place votes.
Following UConn, Syracuse (12-1), the defending NCAA champions, check in at No. 2 receiving 11 first-place votes moving up two spots from last week.
North Carolina (11-2) remained as the No. 3 team in this week's poll receiving six total first-place votes. Duke (11-2) dropped two spots to No. 4 following a 5-1 loss against Syracuse on Oct. 7; the Blue Devils received five first-place votes.
Penn State returns at home this Sunday vs. Maryland as the Nittany Lions whiteout the Terrapins Oct. 16 at 4 p.m. ET. The game will also be broadcast on BTN.
