Penn State Fencing Team Sets Schedule

Wes Glon's squad ready for full slate of action in 2016-17

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; October 13, 2016 – The Penn State fencing team has announced its schedule for its 2016-17 season.

The Nittany Lions began the season at home with the Nittany Lion Cup Open on Sept. 24-25. The men's and women's fencing teams then trekked to Detroit, Mich., for NAC action on Oct. 7-10.

With the bulk of the collegiate season now in front of it, Glon's squad will compete in the Temple Open on Oct. 29-30 in Philadelphia, Pa., to kick the first semester into high gear. Another round of NACs take place in Milwaukee on Nov. 11-14. Penn State will then host the Garret Penn State Open on Nov. 19-20. The team closes out the semester with a meet against Princeton, Harvard, NYU and Vassar in Fairfield, Conn., on Dec. 4.

The Nittany Lions will go to Columbus, Ohio, to compete in the North American Cup Division 1 tournament on Jan. 6-9, 2017. The team will return to Happy Valley to compete against Penn, Temple, North Carolina, Columbia, Haverford, Duke and Yale on Jan. 15.

Penn State fencing will be going to Queens, N.Y., to battle Columbia, Harvard, Notre Dame and Ohio State on Jan. 21. The Nittany Lions will visit Northwestern to face a bevy of teams including Ohio State, Notre Dame, Air Force and Stanford on Feb. 4-5. Penn State preps for NCAA Regionals with a final date at Penn where it will face St. John's, Princeton, Penn, Brown and Stevens Tech on Feb. 25.

"We are just getting into our season. I will have a better idea after the Garrett Open and the Temple Open," Head Coach Wes Glon said. "Right now the team seems good. No one has serious injuries, and they work hard. Last weekend at competition, it gave me a better idea of where we are and where we are going. I think this season everything is right on the mark, but I will have a better look after the next two collegiate meets."
