NEW ORLEANS, LA - The Penn State women's cross country team checked in at No. 9 in this week's rankings, according to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) week five poll released Tuesday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions are coming off a first-place finish at the Penn State National Open this past Friday at the Penn State Blue & White course. Penn State's meet victory featured a 1-2-3 sweep behind the efforts of Tessa Barrett, Elizabeth Chikotas and Jillian Hunsberger, respectively.
Penn State remained No. 1 in the Mid-Atlantic Region, leading Villanova, Penn, West Virginia and Georgetown who round out the top-five.
The Penn State women's cross country team is also ranked No. 8 in the Saucony Flo50 Women's Team XC Rankings.
Penn State will hit the course next on Oct. 30 when the Nittany Lions travel to Minneapolis, MN for the second time this season to take part in the 2016 Big Ten Cross Country Championships at the Les Bolstad Golf Course.
