Round One at Cougar Classic Complete

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" The Penn State women's golf team competed in the first round of the Cougar Classic today and shot a 291 plus-3, currently tied for 11th place with Chattanooga.

The Nittany Lions all played well in the first round, with the highest score being just a 76 plus-4, but are in a very tough field that features seven teams ranked inside the Top 30 at the end of last season. The top eight teams are all under par, with Furman leading the way with a score of 278 10-under, 3 strokes ahead of North Carolina.

Sophomore Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) led the way, recording a team-high seven birdies, and finishing the round 70 2-under. Waller is tied for 15th in the player leaderboard.

Senior Kate Granahan (Allentown, Pa.), came off an impressive home tournament performance, earning a spot on the starting lineup, and continues to impress shooting five birdies in the round and finishing with a score of 73 plus-1.

Sophomore Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) and newcomer Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) both shot a 74 plus-2, while sophomore Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) finished with a 76 plus-4.

The second round gets underway tomorrow. Penn State is paired with the same teams they played with today, Maryland and Charleston Southern, and will-tee off at 8:45 a.m.
