STORRS, Conn. - The Penn State women's hockey team fell 4-2 to the UConn Huskies Saturday afternoon inside the Freitas Ice Forum.
Laura Bowman (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Amy Petersen (Minnetonka, Minn.) paced the Nittany Lion (1-5-2) offense on the afternoon. Bowman recorded her seventh career multi-goal game, while Petersen netted her 10th career multi-assist game.
The Huskies (4-2-1) struck first as Rebecca Lindblad tallied her first goal of the season just 14 seconds into the game. UConn held the 1-0 lead until 6:54 into the first period when Bowman tied the game at one on her 50th career goal.
On the Bowman goal in the first period, linemates Petersen and Sarah Nielsen (Edina, Minn.) recorded assists. Petersen's assist in the first period was the 50th of her career.
Bowman then gave the Nittany Lions a 2-1 lead 8:55 into the second stanza on her eighth goal of her senior season. On Bowman's second goal, Petersen recorded her fifth assist of the 2016-17 campaign.
UConn used three third-period goals to capture the 4-2 victory. Theresa Knutson tied the game at two at 1:01, while Leah Lum scored at 14:35 and then netted an empty net goal at 19:20.
In net for the Nittany Lions, Hannah Ehresmann (Minnetonka, Minn.) recorded 25 saves, while Morgan Fisher tallied 29 saves for UConn.
Penn State begins College Hockey America play Thursday, Oct. 27, at RIT. The Nittany Lions and the Tigers will play inside Ritter Arena on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. and then the two teams close out the two-game series inside the Gene Polisseni Center Friday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m.
