UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" As a player you never really know how much you have grown until the bright lights of game day shine down from the rafters, and on Sunday (Oct. 30) the Penn State women's basketball program showed the strides it made over the summer in an 85-41 exhibition victory over Bloomsburg.

The Lady Lions shot 45.6 percent from the field and connected on 85.7 percent of their attempts from the free throw line in the victory. Penn State turned 29 Bloomsburg turnovers into 31 points and outscored them 50-16 in the paint. Penn State also owned a 22-0 edge in fast break points.

Sophomore guard Teniya Page (Chicago, Ill.) led the way in the scoring column for Penn State with 19 points, adding a game-high nine assists to go along with four rebounds and two steals. Senior forward Peyton Whitted (Suwanee, Ga.) poured in 18 points ââ'¬" 12 coming in the third quarter ââ'¬" and added eight rebounds, while fellow post senior Kaliyah Mitchell (Stone Mountain, Ga.) added a double-double effort of 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Entering halftime with a 46-21 edge, the Lady Lions outscored the Huskies, 21-3, in the third quarter and pushed the lead to 27 points with 7:44 to go in the fourth quarter.

First Quarter
Penn State raced out to a 12-0 lead over the first four minutes of the contest, pushing the lead to double figures on a Lindsey Spann 3-pointer at the 6:16 mark, which prompted Bloomsburg to call a timeout. The Huskies would trim the lead to eight points, 12-4, but would get no closer than that the rest of the way. Kaliyah Mitchell led the way with six first quarter points and junior Lindsey Spann (Laurel, Md.) added five points.

Second Quarter
Penn State pushed the lead to 20 points midway through the second quarter and never looked back, heading into the locker room with a 46-21 edge. The Lady Lions turned eight Husky turnovers into 12 points in the quarter and scored 12 of their 25 points in the paint. Senior Sierra Moore (Hanover, Pa.) and freshman Jaida Travascio-Green (Lisle, Ill.) led the charge with six points each in the second period. Teniya Page added three assists and Mitchell notched five rebounds in the quarter.

Third Quarter

A 21-3 advantage pushed Penn State's lead to 43 points entering the final quarter. Peyton Whitted did most of the damage for Penn State, scoring 12 points in the 10-minute frame, while Page added six points. Mitchell moved her rebound total into double figures with five boards in the stanza, giving her 13 caroms for the game.

Fourth Quarter

Ten Lady Lions saw action in the fourth quarter and Penn State outscored Bloomsburg 18-17 to win each quarter of the game. Page led the charge with eight points, while Spann added seven tallies. Travascio-Green accounted for the only other points in the quarter with a 3-pointer. Page also added two assists and two steals over the final 10 minutes and six different players secured at least one rebound.
