Women's Golf Fall Season Wraps up at Landfall Tradition

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" The Penn State women's golf team finished out their fall season with a strong performance in the final round of the Landfall Tradition. The team shot 12 strokes better than their first two round scores, ending with a round score of 297 plus-9.

The Nittany Lions entered the final round five strokes behind Michigan State and with their impressive performance today, they were able to edge out the Spartans by two strokes for 15th place with a tournament score of 915.

The senior Kate Granahan (Allentown, Pa.) birdied three out of her last six holes to lead the team with a round score of 72 even par. Granahan finished tied for 69th in the player leaderboard with a total score of 232.

Sophomore Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) shot eight strokes better than her round two score, finishing 74 plus-2 on the day.

Sophomore Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) and newcomer Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) both put up consistent scores throughout the entire tournament and finished one and two on the team, respectively. Waller shot a 77, 75, and 75 in her three rounds to finish with a score of 227. While Herr shot a 75, 77, and a 76 in her three rounds and finished with a score of 228. Waller also tied Granahan with a team-high three birdies and finished tied for 52nd in the player leaderboard.

Sophomore Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) put up a 79 plus-7 in her final round to finish the tournament with a score of 233.

After three rounds, Wake Forest and South Carolina tied with team scores of 859 5-under. The tiebreaker rules then went down to the fifth players scores from round three and again both teams tied with each of their players shooting a 78. The second tiebreaker judges the fifth players scores from round two, and finally there was a difference as South Carolina had a 75, while Wake Forest shot a 78. Therefore, South Carolina is the 2016 Landfall Tradition champion.

That concludes the fall season for the women's golf team. The Lions spring season starts up at the end of February when they travel to Miami, Fla. to compete in the Hurricane Invitational.
