WINTHROP, Mass. - Following Penn State's shutout sweep of RIT, a pair of Nittany Lions received College Hockey America (CHA) weekly honors, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. Daniela Paniccia (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) was named the Goalie of the Week and Amy Petersen (Minnetonka, Minn.) received Player of the Week honors.
This is Paniccia's first Goalie of the Week honor and Petersen's third career Player of the Week award. Earlier this season, Paniccia was named the CHA Rookie of the Week (Oct. 24) and Petersen brought home CHA Player of the Week honors on Oct. 10.
The Nittany Lions opened CHA play last Thursday in Rochester, N.Y., against the RIT Tigers. Penn State swept RIT with 2-0 and 5-0 victories.
In net for the Nittany Lions, Paniccia tallied 29 saves on Thursday and posted 24 saves in Friday's game. On the year, Paniccia sports a record of 3-1-1 and has not allowed a goal in the last 184:26 minutes played.
Offensively, Petersen paced the Nittany Lions with four points on three goals and one assist. Petersen recorded one goal and one assist in Thursday's game and she netted two goals in Friday's contest. In each game in the RIT series, Petersen recorded a short-handed goal. She is currently riding a three-game point streak with six points on three goals and three assists.
The Nittany Lions close out their six-game road trip at Mercyhurst in Erie, Pa., Nov. 4-5.
