Tuesday Roundup - Maryland Week

Oct. 4, 2016

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" Fresh off a thrilling overtime win against Minnesota last week, Penn State Football remains home, set to meet Maryland Saturday in Beaver Stadium.

Nittany Lion head coach James Franklin met with the media Tuesday afternoon to wrap up the Minnesota victory while also looking ahead to the homecoming matchup against Maryland.

Penn State (3-2, 1-1 East) and Maryland (4-0, 1-0 East) are set to meet for the 40th time in program history. The Nittany Lions have split the last two meetings, with each outing decided by one point.

Franklin opened his remarks on Tuesday giving credit all around to offense, defense and special teams. He noted that the Nittany Lions were offensively effective in playing an entire game without committing any penalties on offense or turning the ball over, giving special credit to the development of the offensive line, that did not give up a single sack against Minnesota.

He also mentioned improvement on the defensive side of the ball and on special teams in terms of better tackling and the ability to eliminate negative plays without penalties, respectively.

However, Franklin still sees room for improvement, stressing that the focus is on setting the tone from the start of the game with a strong start.

"I think both teams are going to be going into that stadium on Saturday fired up and excited," Franklin said. "They are coming in undefeated. We played an undefeated team last week. We are coming off a big emotional win where the guys just kept fighting and persevering."
