UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's ice hockey team is currently riding the nation's second longest unbeaten streak of nine games and continues their steady rise in the polls as they begin the week ranked 10 in the uscho.com poll.
This ranking comes on the heels of their third consecutive weekend sweep, this time over Alaska-Anchorage with scores of 6-3 and 3-1 last Friday and Saturday night.
This marks the first time ever that Penn State has cracked the top 10 as they move up two spots from the previous week after collecting 515 points, 61 more than last week. The Lions also moved up a single spot in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll to No. 11 with 174 points, 33 more points than the previous week. Both rankings mark new program highs.
Penn State has now won seven straight contests dating back to their upset of then No. 3 Notre Dame on October 22nd marking their longest winning streak in program history. The Nittany Lions nine-game unbeaten streak (8-0-1) also ties their nine-game streak last season of 7-0-2 for their best ever.
PSU's six game home winning streak is also tied for the program best which was set last season from November 13, 2015 through January 8, 2016.
The Nittany Lions have a chance to break that streak this weekend as they welcome Arizona State to Pegula Ice Arena for a pair of contests on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. These match-ups mark the first time ever these two schools are facing off and also features the two newest NCAA Division I programs.
Tickets for both contests still remain and are available at ticketmaster.com or by calling 1-800-NITTANY. Standing room only tickets are also only available by phone.
