Women's Golf Adds to Their Young Talented Roster

Nov. 17, 2016

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State women's golf team adds another young talented player to their roster that already features seven out of 10 underclassmen, with four that have started every tournament this season.

The top four players in terms of average round score for the Nittany Lions team are all underclassmen. As newcomers, Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) and Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) led the team and are doing so again in their sophomore seasons with both of them earning top five finishes in Penn State's only home tournament the Nittany Lion Invitational.

Another player in the top four is newcomer Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) who has started in every tournament this season and has consistently performed. Herr has earned one top 10 finish at the Nittany Lion Invitational where she placed seventh and shot her career low round of 69.

Olivia Zambruno (Mount Pleasant, Pa.) of Greensburg Central Catholic will add to the depth of the roster and looks to experience the same success that other young players on this team have achieved. Zambruno has accomplished feats in her amateur career that not many others have done. Her success started early on as she won a regional championship called the U.S. Kids Golf Desert Shootout at just the age of 12. That winning mentality never faded as Zambruno became the first women's golfer in the state of Pennsylvania to win three consecutive PIAA Class AA girls' golf individual championships, and just the third girl to win three total in PA.

Head coach Denise St. Pierre said "We are excited about Olivia Zambruno joining us in 2017. She comes with a great amount of experience and poise."

The Lions are a very young, talented group and the future continues to look brighter as the players grow and gain confidence. The team has received much of this talent from Pennsylvania and Coach Denise St. Pierre realizes the impact this has had on the program saying "We are excited to continue to attract the best talent from our home state!"
