USCHO.com Poll | USA Today Poll | PairWise Rankings (Updated Nightly)
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - On the heels of their fourth consecutive weekend sweep over Arizona State, the Penn State men's ice hockey team continues to climb the national rankings coming in at No. 8 in this week's USCHO.com poll and No. 10 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.
The Nittany Lions are now the highest ranked Big Ten school in the uscho.com poll after receiving 615 votes which is 100 more than the previous week. Minnesota (No. 11), Ohio State (No. 13) and Michigan (No.16) all remain in the poll while Wisconsin is receiving votes.
PSU's No. 10 ranking in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll is also another program-high as this marks the first-time ever that Penn State is ranked in the top ten on both major polls.
Coming off this weekend's sweep, the Lions have also moved back into the second spot in the PairWise rankings which is the best indicator of which 16 teams will make the NCAA tournament.
The Nittany Lions are currently riding the nation's longest as well as a program best nine-game winning streak and an 11-game unbeaten streak (10-0-1). Following a 15-goal output during their weekend sweep of Arizona State, PSU also ranks first in points (165), goals (62), goals per game (4.77), shots on goal per game (47.54) as well as being tied for first in wins (11), second in assists (103) and tied fourth in goals allowed per game (2.00). Penn State's +36 goal differential is also tops in the nation by 13 goals.
The Lions will enjoy a week off before opening conference play against Michigan on December 1-2 to close out their first semester of play at Pegula Ice Arena.
