Nittany Lion Men's Tennis Team Closes Out Fall Slate at B1G Indoor Championships

November 6, 2016 - UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; The Penn State men's tennis team closed out its fall tournament circuit today at the Big Ten Indoor Championships. The championship tournament was held in the Nielsen Tennis Stadium at the University of Wisconsin.

Today's matches featured four Nittany Lions competing in the singles consolation round. Two players, Zach Lieb (Newtown Square, Pa.) and Henry Gordon (New Braunfels, Texas), advanced through each of their matches to win the flight. Lieb was victorious in his first match against Daniel Soyfer from Wisconsin and then went on to defeat Nebraska's Dylan Bednarczyk. Gordon defeated Nebraska's Chris Dean in his first match, which then placed him in competition against Wisconsin's Elliott Sprecher, where Gordon also came out on top. These wins earned the flight for the Lions.

"I was pleased with how we finished up the tournament today," said head coach Jeff Zinn following the day's final matches. "Henry Gordon and Zach Lieb each played exceptional today, to win their matches and their flights. Both players had a terrific fall campaign and will hopefully carry that success into the spring season."

"I think we finished off pretty good today," said associate head coach Paul Tobin. "It was a long weekend with a lot of tennis and Coach Zinn and I got a good read on our players and our competition."

This championship tournament is the final competition for the blue and white this fall. Nittany Lion men's tennis will pick back up again in January with its spring slate.
