WORCESTER, Mass. - Life on the road can be tough, but the Penn State women's basketball program shook off a slow start and four players reached double-figures in an 84-48 victory over Holy Cross on Wednesday (Dec. 7) inside the Hart Recreation Center.
The game was tied at 8-8 with 6:12 left in the first quarter before a Kaliyah Mitchell (Stone Mountain, Ga.) 3-pointer jump started the offense and sparked a 31-12 run over the next 14 minutes to give her team a 19-point lead heading into halftime, 39-20.
The second half was more of the same, as Penn State netted 49 points -- its highest scoring second half of the season -- and limited Holy Cross to just 28 tallies. The Lady Lions forced 10 second half turnovers and committed just three to help control the pace of the game.
Overall, Penn State shot 51.9 percent from the field, including 61 percent in the first half, and made a season-high 23 free throws. The Lady Lions outrebounded the opposition for the seventh time in 2016-17, 39-26, held the advantage in bench points for the eighth time this year, 21-10, and forced a season-high 24 turnovers.
Junior Lindsey Spann (Laurel, Md.) moved past the 900-point mark for her career in the contest, scoring 18 points to push her career total to 902 tallies. Spann also moved into a tie for No. 10 on Penn State career 3-pointers made charts, connecting on three shots from distance in the game to move her career total to 118.
Mitchell hit a career-high four 3-pointers in the game and finished with 15 points, while sophomore Teniya Page (Chicago, Ill.) added 17 points for her eighth game this season with at least 15 points and senior Sierra Moore (Hanover, Pa.) chipped in 10 points off the bench.
Page and Moore both filled the stat sheet, as Page handed out five assists and posted a career-best six steals. Moore had six rebounds, two assists, one steal and one blocked shot in the game.
Sophomore Ashanti Thomas (Lexington, Ky.) scored a career-best nine points, while Siyeh Frazier (Detroit, Mich.) tallied a career-best five points.
