Wrestler Jason Nolf Named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week

Jan. 10, 2017

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Sophomore wrestler Jason Nolf (Yatesboro, Pa.) has been named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week for the week ending January 9, 2017. The honor is the second for Nolf, who won once last year, and the first for Penn State this season.

Nolf, who is ranked No. 1 nationally at 157, dominated two of the Big Ten's best in a road swing through the Midwest. Nolf pinned No. 9 Jake Short of Minnesota at the 3:44 mark of the second period. Nolf's fall came after opening up a gaudy 14-4 lead after one period. His win helped Penn State roll over the home-standing Gophers 33-6. Two days later, the Nittany Lion All-American cruised past #3 Tyler Berger of Nebraska with a 15-7 major. Nolf dominated the match form start to finish, posting a six to one takedown edge. Nolf's win helped propel Penn State to a dominating 27-14 win over No. 6 Nebraska in Lincoln.

Nolf remains unbeaten on the year with an 11-0 record, including seven pins, three techs and a major. Penn State is now 6-0 on the year, 2-0 in Big Ten action, and have won 23 straight duals dating back to the end of the 2014-15 campaign.

Penn State returns to Rec Hall for the first time in over a month on Friday, Jan. 13, when Rutgers invades Rec Hall for a 7 p.m. Big Ten dual. All Rec Hall dual meets are sold out, but a very limited number of Standing Room Only tickets can be purchased by calling 1-800-NITTANY.
