SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Penn State women's hockey team fell, 3-1, to the Syracuse Orange in a College Hockey America (CHA) conference matchup Friday night inside the Tennity Ice Pavilion. Freshman Brooke Madsen (Eagan, Minn.) netted her fourth career goal in the contest.
Syracuse (6-10-5, 5-2-2 CHA) struck early in the game as Emily Costales' scored her first of two goals of the night just 1:42 into the contest. In the second period of play, Syracuse extended its lead on a pair of goals from Stephanie Grossi and Costales at 2:14 and 12:02, respectively.
For the Nittany Lion (5-14-4, 4-4-1 CHA) offense, Madsen put the Blue & White on the scoreboard at 3:16 into the third period.
In net, Hannah Ehresmann (Minnetonka, Minn.) made 34 saves for PSU, while Abbey Miller recorded 16 saves for Syracuse.
The Nittany Lions and the Orange close out the series Saturday, Jan. 14, inside the Tennity Ice Pavilion at 3 p.m.
NOTES: Syracuse leads all-time series against Penn State, 15-1-3...Both teams went 0-for-4 on the power play...Syracuse outshot Penn State, 37-17.
