Penn State Men's Tennis Announces 2017 Schedule

January 23, 2017 - UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; The Penn State men's tennis team released its 2017 spring schedule following the Big Ten Championship tournament in December. The Lions will play their first match of the 2017 slate on January 27 against Vanderbilt at the ITA Kickoff in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The seven-time NCAA qualifying Nittany Lions will host twelve home matches this spring at the Sarni Tennis Center in Happy Valley. These twelve days of home court tennis will feature contests versus eighteen teams beginning on February 4 with dual matches against Cleveland State and Lehigh University. The blue and white will play their first Big Ten conference match of 2017 at home against Ohio State on February 15. Beginning in late March, Penn State will host five more conference matches with the home court advantage against Michigan, Purdue, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.

The 2017 regular season will conclude on the road for the Nittany Lions on April 23 with a conference match against Northwestern University. The following weekend, the Big Ten Championship will kick off in West Lafayette, Indiana on April 27.

This years NCAA regional competition will begin May 12-14, with sixteen teams advancing to the NCAA Championship. The final rounds of the NCAA Team Championship will be played May 18-23 and the NCAA Individual Championship will run from May 24-29, both will take place in Athens, Georgia.

"We have another challenging schedule that we are excited to embark on this spring season," said head coach Jeff Zinn. "We have contests against a number of quality teams from different conferences which will test us throughout the year. It will be fun and we need to enjoy the journey because it will be a roller coaster ride."

"We are very excited about our upcoming schedule," said associate head coach Paul Tobin. "It's always a challenge to try to get top ranked teams to play us at home, but fortunately the Big Ten will be strong this year and we should be able to get our ranking points within the conference."
