UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State women's hockey team dropped a non-conference decision, 5-0, against the Ohio State Buckeyes Friday night inside the Pegula Ice Arena.
Ohio State (9-10-2, 4-10-2 WCHA) jumped out to a 3-0 lead over Penn State (5-12-4, 4-3-1 CHA) midway through the first period. Jincy Dunne put Ohio State up 1-0 just 2:14 into the contest. The Buckeyes added to their lead on a pair of goals from Katie Matheny at 7:59 at 10:14, respectively.
With 41 seconds left in the second stanza, Maddy Field netted her seventh goal of the season to give the Buckeyes a 4-0 tally. Matheny completed her hat trick 6:53 into the third period to make it a 5-0 contest.
Daniela Paniccia (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) and Kassidy Sauve both recorded 29-save performances Friday night.
The Nittany Lions and Buckeyes close out the series Saturday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. Saturday's game is a Family 4-Pack game and the Nittany Lions will be hosting a free post-game skate.
