Mende Named EIVA Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - After leading Penn State men's volleyball during a 2-0 weekend on the road against NJIT and Princeton, redshirt-freshman Calvin Mende earned his first conference weekly awards of the season, being selected as the EIVA Offensive Player of the Week Tuesday afternoon.

Mende averaged 4.30 kills/set and a .551 hitting percentage in a 2-0 week for Penn State in EIVA action.

On Friday, Mende recorded 14 kills on a .393 hitting percentage in a 3-2 win at NJIT. The following evening Mende had a career night as he had 29 kills on only two errors while hitting .659 as the Nittany Lions rallied back from a 2-0 deficit against Princeton for the win.

Defensively, Mende added 12 total blocks (1.20 blocks/set) and nine digs during the week. Mende is currently fifth in the EIVA with total kills (143) and eighth in kills/set (3.11).



Penn State returns to action against Saint Francis (Pa.) Tue. Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. in Loretto, Pa.
