Four Qualify for Winter Cup Finals

Prelim Results | Event Finals ListLAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Penn State men's gymnastics team saw four individuals qualify for the 2017 Winter Cup event finals Thursday, Feb. 16.

Sophomore Michael Burns (Baltimore, Ohio) tied for 11th overall with a 13.550 on the parallel bars to earn his spot in the event finals. The sophomore also placed 13th overall on the high bar with a 13.200 in his second collegiate appearance at the Winter Cup.

Redshirt-senior Leroy Clarke, Jr. (Maplewood, N.J.) will make his second-straight appearance in the Winter Cup event finals after finishing eighth on the pommel horse with a 13.950. Clarke tied for 11th overall on the high bar with a 13.250 and came in 15th on the still rings with a 13.650.

Senior Dominic DiFulvio will compete on the parallel bars in the 2017 Winter Cup finals, while scoring a 14.000 on the vault and tying for 19th overall. The event finals appearance marks the first for DiFulvio as it is the first time he has qualified for the event.

Finally, freshman Favian Valdez (Kearny, N.J.) will compete on the still rings in the event finals after scoring a 13.050 in the event. The freshman also finished in the top 30 on the pommel horse and the parallel bars representing the Nittany Lions.

Also competing at the Winter Cup is former Penn State men's gymnastics standout and current volunteer assistant coach Trevor Howard, who qualified for the vault finals with a 10th place finish. Howard notched a 13.950 on the vault, while also tying for seventh overall on the high bar with a 13.550.

The group will wrap up the 2017 Winter Cup Satuday, Feb. 18 at 10 p.m.
