UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" The Penn State women's golf team begins their 2017 spring season down in Miami, Fla. to compete in the Hurricane Invitational hosted by the University of Miami.
The 54-hole tournament will be played on the Biltmore Golf Course, and span over three days, with round one getting underway tomorrow and the final round concluding on Wednesday.
The Nittany Lions will be one of four Big Ten teams playing in this year's field. They will be joined by Michigan, Minnesota, and Northwestern. The rest of the field rounds out to be; Augusta State, Barry University, East Carolina, FIU, Iowa State, Louisville, Mercer, Miami, Middle Tennessee, South Dakota State, South Florida, and Virginia Tech.
Head coach Denise St. Pierre is traveling with the same starting five that competed in all of the fall tournaments. Those players are the three sophomores Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.), Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.), and Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.), as well as the newcomer Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.), and the senior Kate Granahan (Allentown, Pa). Newcomer Ashni Dhruva (Katy, Tx.) also traveled with the Lions and is competing as an individual player.
Penn State's first golfer is teeing off tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. on the 10th hole. The Lions are grouped with Virginia Tech and South Dakota State.
