UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" The Penn State women's golf team competed in round two of the Hurricane Invitational and are in sixth place heading into the final round after shooting a 301 today.
The Lions hold a tournament score of 592, plus-16, and are only four strokes behind Barry University who is currently in fourth place, and one stroke behind the host team Miami who is in fifth place, so they have an opportunity to move up a few spots in the standings. While Louisville has led wire-to-wire after two rounds with a score of 574, 2-under.
Newcomer Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) shot another great score in round two, finishing with three birdies on her way to a 71, 1-under. Herr is inside the top-10 on the player leaderboard, sitting tied for sixth place at 143, 1-under.
Sophomores Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.), and Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.), shot scores of 75 and 76, respectively in the round. Basso shot even par through her front-nine, while Waller did the opposite, shooting even par through the back nine. While they both added one birdie on the day.
Senior Kate Granahan (Allentown, Pa.) and sophomore Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) also both finished with one birdie and shot 79 and 80, respectively.
Penn State's individual player, newcomer Ashni Dhruva (Katy, Tx.), ranks fourth amongst all players competing as strictly individuals with a tournament score of 151.
The final round of the Hurricane Invitational begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. tomorrow. Penn State is paired with Barry and Miami University and are teeing off on holes four through six.
