UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Shep Garner scored 24 points for Penn State and made 6 of 9 3-pointers, but the Nittany Lions dropped a 70-68 decision to Rutgers Saturday afternoon in the Bryce Jordan Center.
Tony Carr made a move to tie the game as time expired, but was unable to convert on the layup. He finished the game with 17 points, including 12 in the second half as Penn State (12-12, 4-7) came back from a 13-point deficit to pull within one with 11 seconds to play.
Corey Sanders, who scored 25 points for Rutgers (13-11, 2-9), hit 1 of 2 free throws with nine seconds to play, give the Knights their two-point lead. Sanders added six rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Mike Williams had 12 points and Deshawn Freeman scored 15 for Rutgers.
